Link process step to person assigned task
All:
I am interested in linking a process step to a person tasked with the process. In short, when a person is tasked with a story, I would like the story card moved to a specific process step, automatically.
In short, I would like an easier way to use this as a tool as a visually see how my team is loaded with regards to tasks.

Hi Ron,
When you say tasks, do you mean tasks within the story card, or assigned the story card itself (ie: assign an owner to a story card)? If referring to the story card itself as a task, do you generally assign owners at the same time that you create the cards?
You can always filter the board by story card owner to highlight all cards assigned to a given owner. You can read more about filtering the board here: http://help.agilezen.com/kb/filtering/how-to-filter-the-board-in-ag...
You can also save filters so you could have a saved filter for each team member that would highlight the story cards assigned to them at any given time, at any step in the process flow, so you can still preserve your process phases while getting a view of the number of cards assigned to a given owner/team member.
Sincerely,
Ashley

I actually didn¹t mean to say tasks. Then a story card is assigned, can
the story card automatically move to a certain step in the process?

Hi Ron,
No problem!
There is no way to do this through the web application, since we want to separate the steps of card assignment and phase assignment. You might be able to use our API (dev.agilezen.com) to craft a solution on your own, or use filters to at least provide a visual depiction of who is assigned how many/which story cards.
What type of automatic movement between phases are you looking to accomplish? I may be able to provide additional suggestions based on your use case.
Thanks!
Ashley

Really, I am taking each phase of the process and labeling them each team
members name. Once the story card is assigned to a given team member, the
card would automatically move to the phase that is their name. This will
allow me to see all the tasks assigned to the team easilly. I will also be
able to limit the amount of tasks assigned to each team member (phase) so
I don¹t bombard any one person over another. This will aide in the level
loading of tasks across the team.
Thanks for all the help. I will check out the developer page. Any thoughts
are welcomed!

With regards to the development tools, what is an object? From what I can
tell, I can create a story not only by clicking the add button. Am I to
understand that I can create a story on my project from a VB string?

Hi Ron,
that is correct that you can also create new stories via the API.. you
simply need to send the data to the relevant end point in JSON or XML
format. Given your use case, you might couple story creation and assignment
of new owner together, and then move the card to the desired phase based on
story owner either at creation time or based on matching up when a story
owner is equal to a given owner, move to given owner's phase. You can
enable the developer console within your AgileZen settings to play around
with different options. Let us know if you have specific questions along
the way! :)
Sincerely,
Ashley
